Skybotix AG
The Visual-Inertial (VI) sensor technology developed by Skybotix in combination with a software allows drones to fly even in very complex environments, without collisions. The VI sensor is intended for unmanned vehicles and robotic devices and can be used to help save lives during crises and emergencies or inspections of industrial plants where the drones have to approach as close as possible to walls, machines or steel structures. In 2015 GoPro acquired Skybotix for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was carried out without communication and was not officially confirmed. Skybotix communicated via their homepage that they had discontinued their VI sensor program and the name of the company was changed to GoPro Switzerland AG in the Swiss company registry. As of 2017 the team that designs the computer vision algorithms for GoPro's aerial product line still remained in Zurich.
